Ubisoft Apologizes for Disastrous "Assassin's Creed Unity" Launch, Offers Free DLC and Free Games to Ease the Pain

By

"Assassin's Creed Unity" did not have a great launch. In fact, depending on who you ask, it had an abysmal, awful, world-destroying launch.

Although maybe that's a tad hyperbolic.

Take PC Gamer, for instance, who reported that the game ran with graphical issues, bugs, glitches, a disastrous framerate (they compare it to an old-timey, early 1900's motion picture), issues with the online performance, and eventually, an inability to play the game at all because it had locked down.

Turns out, these problems were pretty widespread. And so Ubisoft has wisely bowed down and is offering the many, many "Assassin's Creed Unity" players an apology- both in written form, and in "here have free stuff" form.

First, is the official apology, which can be seen over at Ubisoft's official "Assassin's Creed" page, and which explains that yes, the game's launch was horrible, but all those problems are nearly at an end.

Says Yannis Mallat of "Assassin's Creed Unity:"

"We've been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Today, we're releasing our third patch, which fixes a variety of specific issues related to the game's stability and performance, matchmaking and connectivity, gameplay and menus."

That's the regular part- for the "free stuff" part, the same announcement adds that the next piece of "Assassin's Creed" DLC (entitled "Dead Kings") is free for everyone, courtesy of Ubisoft. And if you've already purchased "Dead Kings" in advance, Ubisoft is offering a free game from their library in its stead.

Your choices: "The Crew," "Far Cry 4," "Watch Dogs," "Assassin's Creed Black Flag," "Rayman Legends," "Just Dance 2015."

While some outlets seem satisfied, the general feeling (from outlets like Consumerist, which claim ""many are still angered" seems to be that Ubisoft has massively screwed this up- not just by releasing a buggy game, but by holding back reviews and revealing to the public that the game was buggy. So all the people who bought it are probably pretty steamed as well.
