'Terminator 5' Release Date Update: See Arnold Schwarzenegger as aged T-800; 'Genisys' new photos worry critics

By

Paramount recently released a new set of photos for the upcoming "Terminator" sequel "Genisys." Entertainment Weekly published the photos, which was first released on October 30th. One of the photos featured Arnold Schwarzenegger in a leather jacket holding a gun. The makeup team appeared to have not covered much of the former California governor's age lines that for the uninitiated, one would think that maybe the image is not apt for the movie as Schwarzenegger is supposed to play a robot.

However, another image that was leaked indicated that Schwarzenegger will still indeed play the robot, albeit an older model. Twitter user cClinkenbeard tweeted on November 20 Schwarzenegger in makeup as a battered, old T-800, with one part of his face showing what appeared to be a steel cheek. The image came in with a caption that read, "@TheArnoldFans @TerminatorFans German tour group at Paramount found #TerminatorGenisys pic."

Slashfilm had caught up with director James Cameron about Schwarzenegger's appearance in the sequel, of which he was quoted as saying, "I pointed out that the outer covering (of the Terminator) was actually not synthetic, that it was organic and therefore could age. You could theoretically have a Terminator that was sent back in time, missed his target, and ended up just kind of living on in society. Because he is a learning computer and has a brain as a central processor he could actually become more human as he went along without getting discovered... I'm hoping it's great. I'd like them to get it right, and based on the script that I read there's a pretty good chance that it could. It looks like it could be fun."

Screencrush said that apart from Schwarzenegger's leaked and official still, the rest of the photos did not fare well at least for critics. Matt Smith, Jai Courtney and "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke's expressions in the photos reportedly make the sequel looked as cheap as it should not have been.

"Terminator Genisys" will debut in theaters next year, July 1.
