Rumors have been circulating all over the internet about a returning female lead who will make a comeback to Port Charles. ABC Network has addressed the rumors about the returning 'General Hospital' "fan favorite".
According to ABC Soaps in Depth, "We're also hearing rumors that a female doctor, one who hasn't been in town since 2002 is returning to the show: Sarah Webber, Elizabeth's older sister."
The character of Sarah Webber first debuted in 1997 and was, at the time, portrayed by actress Jennifer Sky. Sarah's character was written in 1998, but made a return in 2002. Actress Sarah Laine was recast as the older Webber sister. However, Laine only did a few storylines her character was written back out of the script.
Since actress Kelly Thiebaud has opted not to renew her contract with 'General Hospital', taking her character Dr. Britt Westbourne with her, the network has opted to bring back Sarah Webber's character. Dr. Britt, the so-called "bitch" of 'General Hospital' left the series in an emotional episode. The actress posted a message on her Instagram page, "Hey you beautiful, awesome people! It's been so hard reading your tweets about me leaving the show and not being able to respond. I wanted to wait till my last episode aired to say my goodbyes. And here we are ... What a fun and challenging adventure it has been. It went by too fast. I decided not to resign my contract because I would like to book other roles on prime time shows and film. You have to follow your dreams right! Thank you for all the love and support. I hope you will continue to follow me onto the next adventure. I love you all - Britch!"
Elizabeth and Sarah had a complicated sibling rivalry. Both sisters found themselves to be fighting over the same men- most notably Lucky Spencer and Nikolas Cassadine.
When Sarah left town in 2002, Elizabeth had severed ties with her when she discovered that she was seeing Lucky behind her back. Sarah then went to Europe to live with their parents. As of now, ABC Network has not given news if Sarah Laine will be reprising her role.
Her return to Port Charles will certainly stir up some drama in 'General Hospital'. Will Sarah and Elizabeth's relationship get even more complicated? It will be a surprising comeback, indeed.
