Keen K-pop observers discovered the potential source of EXO's upcoming winter track "December, 2014 (The Winter's Tale)."
Following the release of the track's trailer, which was called "a X-Mas gift from EXO," some fans pointed out that the music used has striking similarity with K. Michelle's 2012 song titled "Long Time, No See," KpopStars reports.
Since then, the hasthag #beoriginalSM on Tumblr has caught the attention of more EXO fans.
KpopStars noted that SM Entertainment, EXO's record label and management agency, had a history of re-making foreign artists' songs for their label talents.
The teaser video for "December, 2014 (The Winter's Tale)" was released in December 15, and shares the same tune and signature snaps that appear in K. Michelle's "Long Time, No See," which was published on YouTube in 2012.
While the teaser only ran for 40-seconds and only featured a portion of the EXO's new track, observers have recognized that "Long Time, No See" was its basis.
In the past, SM has outsourced and purchased many songs from American musicians, instead of having an in-house team of music composers. According to KpopStars, some notable examples are Girls' Generation's "Run Devil Run," which was revealed to be originally offered to American singer Ke$ha, as well as SHINee's "Juliette," which was released by actor Corbin Bleu as "Deal With It."
According to Koreaboo, "December, 2014 (Winter's Tale)" will be released on December 19 via the mobile game Superstar SMTOWN.
In other news, EXO will end the year with a performance in China in the Hunan Broadcasting System's Special Year-End Show, one of the country' biggest year-end show broadcast on TV.
The event will be held at the Guangzhou International Sports Arena on December 31.
According to the report, EXO will perform their hit songs "Growl," Overdose," and "Lucky." Chinese singer Zhang Li Yin, who is a member of South Korean group SM The Ballad, is also set to perform in the upcoming event.
