"The Last of Us" is one of the most well received games that hit the next gen-consoles. The action-adventure survival game garnered a lot of fans for its exciting gameplay and intriguing storyline. However, the development team in Naughty Dog sees "flaws" in the game.
Gamepur reports that the Co-Director of Naughty Dog, Bruce Straley, is very grateful for the reception of The Last of Us and The Last of Us: Remastered. According to their source, Bruce said that "I'm super proud of what we've done here in the team and everything that we've accomplished," however he thinks that there could have been more to the game, adding that "... but at the same time, there's another aspect, which is like, it's not done, or something." He also said that "You still see the flaws, you still see the things that you wish you had more time to improve on, and you still wish you could have done something a little differently."
However, even though the game developers felt that they could have done more in "The Last of Us", players was still able to enjoy the game and have a deep connection with it. According to Power Up Gaming, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, Co-Directors in Naughty Dog, was surprised in the reception of "The Last of Us". They said that they were not anticipating that the game will bond with their players in a different level.
According to the report, Neil Druckmann said that it was satisfying to see players to "have connected with the story, the game, the experience," of the Last of Us. He even added that I've had people say it's changed the way they think about life, and they want to have kids now, and they didn't before. Ashley [Johnson, who voices Ellie] told me a story that after a girl played Left Behind, like, that helped her come out to her parents - and to me that's just unreal," furthermore, he said that "Our intention was to create something that would entertain and say something artistically, but I never imagined it would affect people on that level."
"The Last of Us" certainly left a mark in the game industry and a lot of players were able to connect with the game well. Even though game developers think that they could have done more, fans of the game were left satisfied yet craving for more. Maybe the game developers could put what they could have done more into "The Last of Us" sequel.
