Charlie Hebdo, a weekly magazine in France, is known to have unconditional portrayals of Prophet Muhammad in its illustrations. In 2001, the publication became the target of a terrorist attack. And by 7 January, 2015, the magazine was attacked by gunmen, killing more than 10. The leader of Yemen's al - Qaeda has already made a statement that they are responsible for the attack.
To be in that room, where guns were fired, is truly heart - stopping. One can only imagine the fear of those who have witnessed the massacre first hand. Hence, it is expected that a lot of people would be interested to see or read accounts of the survivors from Charlie Hebdo massacre.
According to source, the first edition of Charlie Hebdo after the attack was sold out within few minutes following its release. Because of this surprising demand for the publication, new copies are said to be reprinted.
Based from some reports, the gunmen spared the lives of women during the massacre. One of the survivors had a face to face encounter with one of the gunmen and he said to her that they do not kill woman. And since he will not kill her, she must read the Koran.
Few weeks ago, Charlie Hebdo had a small circulation. Only few people were aware that such exists. But after the attack, the publication with a circulation of 60,000 had to print 3 million copies.
The Charlie Hebdo massacre was followed by another attack which killed 5 people. With this, more authorities were tasked to different areas to ensure that no more assaults will be made.
One source says that the illustration from the controversial Charlie Hebdo Survivor edition might anger Muslims even more. The cover has a depiction of Prophet Muhammad with a sign that says "Je suis Charlie" or I am Charlie. Hopefully, this will not be another reason for another attack.
