Windows 10 is still in the works, and Microsoft seems to be throwing everything that it's got to make the new OS the redeemer of its previous ones. In fact, the compony is going beyond to what they have actually promised, as they introduce new features that would improve user experience, including better messaging system,a totally new web browser, a personal assistant, and the Windows 10 HoloLens headset; a peripheral that produces holographic images for productivity and gaming.
Alex Kipman, one of the geniuses behind Xbox's Kinect motion-sensing camera, pointed out that HoloLens is made to run on Windows 10, whichshould be a great deal to gamers and app developers.
The Windows 10 HoloLens headset is a stand-alone wireless device, with no cables running to a smartphone or PC or handheld controller of any sort, compared to majority of 3-D headsets. It uses an application called HoloStudio that lets the user manipulate 3-D objects projected as holographic images, which can only be seen while wearing the headset.
Apart from the Windows 10 HoloLens headset, Microsoft also introduced a web browser, dubbed as Project Spartan, which is thought to take the place of Internet Explorer as thew OS's built-in web browser.Corporate vice president Joe Belfiore described the next-generation web browser to be more suitable and more friendly to the modern Web.
During the presentation, Belfiore showed a number of productivity features. However, he did not revealed the browser's other functions. He, although, presented some screenshots of various web pages highlighted with a stylus. All the images are stored on Microsoft's OnDrive cloud service, and Belfiore said that users can share screenshots via social media.
Furthermore, Project Spartan also comes with a built-in Cortana voice assistant for web search function. Cortana is currently available only on Windows Phone 8.1, but the company gave its word on including the voice assistant in Windows 10.
Microsoft is set to release the new Windows OS later this year, along with Cortana, Project Spartan browser and the Windows 10 HoloLens headset, Systems running on Windows 7 or later can upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge during its first year of release.
