Last year's "The LEGO Movie" may not have gotten an Oscar nomination (well, "Everything Is Awesome" did, but not the actual movie itself -- a shame), but that doesn't mean we didn't love that whimsical animated LEGO adventure. And so did everyone else, judging from how successful "The LEGO Movie" was -- both with critics and box-office dollars.
And because of that, Warner Bros has more than just one "LEGO Movie" sequel in the work -- it's got three.
First in line is a "LEGO Ninjago" movie (the official title hasn't been revealed yet), slated for release on October 14, 2016 (according to Christian Times). Ninjago, for the unaware, is a series of LEGO toys based around an ancient Japanese style, with ninjas, dragons and feudal Japanese architecture. Along with the lack of title, there isn't much story to go on for the "Ninjago" movie, but it'll be directed by Chris Bean, who's done a considerable amount of work for "The Powerpuff Girls" and "TRON: Uprising."
Next, is "LEGO Batman," a spin-off from "The LEGO Movie" starring Will Arnett's portrayal of a Batman minifigure. Slated for release in February of 2017, the film will deal with Batman's struggle to find happiness (via Wired), as he's famous for being the darkest, most brooding superhero in pop culture. This one'll be directed by Chris McKay, who was originally set to direct "The LEGO Movie 2" until "Batman" got put on high priority.
Then, finally, is "The LEGO Movie 2," which will be released sometime in 2018. The film, which will most likely follow the continuing adventures of minifig Emmet, will be written by "The LEGO Movie" directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and according to ComicBook.com, the film will take place four years after the original and will continue the story of both Emmet and the real-life boy revealed later on in the film.
That's a lot of "LEGO Movie" in the next four years. But, like we said, "The LEGO Movie" and everything about it was pretty much beloved, so we can't see more LEGO adventures being a bad thing.
