"Ray Donovan" Casts "Deadwood" Actor Ian McShane for Major Role in Season Three; Showtime Series Premiere Date Headed for Next Summer

By

Huge news for fans of Showtime's "Ray Donovan!" It's just been revealed that in the upcoming third season of the popular crime drama, Ian McShane has been cast in a major role. McShane's a fairly prominent actor, best known for "Deadwood," but also for turns in "Sexy Beast" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who note that McShane will be playing a character named Malcolm Finney, a "prominent movie producer and billionaire who hires L.A.'s favorite professional fixer, Ray (Liev Schreiber), to get his family out of a potentially catastrophic situation." Apparently, the two characters will form a very close relationship.

The role is described as a season-long one, and the third season of "Ray Donovan" will last twelve episodes in total- the show is set to start filming its next season very soon, on January 26 in Los Angeles.

CarterMatt adds that while there's no set premiere date for "Ray Donovan's" third season, the show will likely premiere sometime in the summer of 2015.

As well, in a recent piece in Fashion & Style, Schreiber spoke on how he views the show's titular character.

"No, it was much deeper, much heavier, more chaotic. When I read the character, I thought it was an interesting take on contemporary masculinity. When you have that many good actors and that many good writers, it takes on a life of its own."

"He's a very damaged guy, but I like him. I think ironically Ray is an extremely moral person. I think that's why he struggles so much. He's really hard on himself and hard on his family. Family is very important to him, loyalty is very important to him."

What do you think? Will the inclusion of McShane's character affect Ray's views on family and loyalty? How will this season stack up against the previous two? We'll find out this summer.
