Since weeks, "Hart of Dixie" has been reportedly in the threat of cancellation due to fewer ratings. It was even rumored that it will be cancelled after its season 4 ends. Plus, this is the one of the shows that CW didn't renew because of the so-so ratings and a lot of people were pessimistic about its success.
However, just last week, there was a dramatic increase with its ratings in their episode, "The Very Good Bagel."
According to Catermatt, the show has earned 0.5 rating within 18-49 demographic, which is also considered of the best figures that the show got for this season. So, if this rating will continue rise up, it will be tantamount to the other low-rating shows who had been renewed by the network. Such shows are "Reign" and "The 100."
The same site explained that if this 0.5 rating will remain for the rest of the episodes, there might be a possibility that this show will be renewed for another season. Otherwise, no better chances of having its season 5.
Thus, the show must stay away from the 0.3 rating. However, it will be tougher as February ends since it will be warmer which makes the an unstable number of viewers especially during Friday nights.
On the other hand, CW President Mark Pedowitz defended that it wouldn't be really cancelling the show. But, they just haven't taken a glimpse of the show's ratings yet. So, there was no definite decision regarding the future of the show.
"We'll get an opportunity to see how it plays with Jane the Virgin. If it ends, [this season is] a great series finale; if it doesn't end, it's a great season finale. But we're not committed one way or another," he said.
Digital Spy also detailed the figures as to how the show is progressing. They said that they got 1.22m viewers last December 15 up on its season three premier in October 2013.
Currently, the show has only renewed 10 episodes for Season 4. Apart from its tough attraction to the viewers that made the series a low-rated season, another reason for ending is Rachel Bilson's pregnancy. Bilson went on to maternity leave so the series had to be cut short.
