"Silent Hills" Release Date: Is Game Launching Scheduled this Halloween 2016? May Come in 'Walking Dead' Style Episodic Format

By

After the release of the "P.T"- the playable trailer that scared the entire Internet stupid (and, it turns out, was a covert trailer for the upcoming "Silent Hills," a sequel to the ever-popular "Silent Hill" horror franchise), anticipation for "Silent Hills" couldn't be higher.

And now, we might know when "Silent Hills" will be playable in its full form. A new rumor claims that director/producer Hideo Kojima (best known for the "Metal Gear Solid" franchise) is aiming to get "Silent Hills" on store shelves by Halloween 2016. That'd be the perfect way to make 2016's Halloween the scariest one on record- although Trick 'r Treaters might suffer if all the adults are indoors, glued to the TV screen because they're too scared to answer the door.

However, there's more than just rumor to this Halloween 2016 potential release date. Kojima himself has stated that the game's not likely to release until at least 2016.

"Development is cycling between either allowing players to choose to play the whole game in first person or third person, or keeping it fixed third person and having some areas be first person only. Either way we want to do something with first person. The game will not be out more than likely until 2016, lots of time left."

In the same interview, Kojima also hinted at "Silent Hills" being an open world game, which would be an excellent new addition to the franchise.

"All I can say is that Fox Engine is meant for open world I cannot discuss more on the game design itself in detail yet."

That's not all, though. Another rumor alleges that "Silent Hills" might not be released as a full game, opting instead for episodic releases, like television shows or the recent string of games from Telltale Games ("The Walking Dead," "The Wolf Among Us," "Game of Thrones"). That might mean "Silent Hills" gets to us a little faster- after all, a small chunk of game might be far easier to produce in time for a 2016 deadline- but that also means we'd be waiting after each installment. Which do you think would be the ideal format? Episodic, or all-in-one?
