So it's finally time for Joss Whedon to say good-by to Marvel. Yet all of this may actually work to his advantage as he plans on creating something brand new. Reports claim that the director is set to "create a new universe" and a movie with a female Batman, also known as the Batgirl/Batwoman.
One cannot deny the box-office success of 'The Avengers' and coming very soon is the 'Age of Ultron' that's already creating a very loud buzz among the fans. Also, the writer/director was one of the geniuses behind Marvel's shared universe, but as of the moment things are uncertain for him, reported Screenrant.
However, it looks like Whedon is determined more than ever to bring himself to another adventure in his career even if that means leaving something that has grown familiar to him and of course the fans, reported Caped Crusades.
"I would never rule anything out, because I like working here. By the same token, the biggest thing for me is that I need to do something that I create myself. It's been way too long since I created a universe. The last thing I did before The Avengers was [directing an episode of] Glee, and in between I did 'Much Ado About Nothing.' So I haven't created my own universe for over five years. That feels wrong."
Even before signing for the 'Age of Ultron,' it seems that Whedon is already itching to mold a kind of universe that may not necessarily flatter Marvel or DC or the fans for that matter, at least initially. In his interview with Buzzfeed, he danced with the idea of creating a character with complex character and circumstance, like a "female Batman."
"I will say that when I was thinking about, 'Well, if I wasn't going to do Avengers 2, what would I want to do?' - of course the first thing I thought of was "turn-of-the-century female Batman." Not Batman actually. But, you know, something cool. One person. Can't stress that enough. Movie about one person - not a team, not 10, just one. But do a nice sort of hard action movie that combined all my favorite things. Something that would be the love child of Sam Fuller and Edward Gorey. You know, I've had many thoughts since then. Oh, I could do this! Oh, I could do that! But it is my instinct to want to tell those stories."
It seems like his creativity knows no bounds and it can actually be said that staying with Marvel for a long time may stifle his creativity. May he needs to walk out in order to create that universe that will reflect something that he really loves, and may be a story of a Batgirl or a Batwoman will be very plausible in his world.
