"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" Pre-order, Release: Game Interaction Still Not Enough to Boost on Sales Rankings? "Dying Light," "Halo 5" as main competitors

By

Where would you say "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" ranks amongst upcoming games? Is it the game you're anticipating the most? The least? Would you rank it amongst your top five? According to Amazon's sales figures (via Explosion), the latest "Metal Gear Solid" game is currently sitting in the #9 slot for games most preordered in January- which is far behind what we would have expected.

According to the figures, here are the top 10 most preordered games of the month.

1. "Batman: Arkham Knight"
2. "Dying Light"
3. "The Witcher: Wild Hunt"
4. "Tom Clancy's The Division"
5. "Halo 5: Guardians"
6. "The Order: 1886"
7. "Grand Theft Auto V" (PC)
8. "Battlefield Hardline"
9. "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain"
10. "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End"

Would you have expected "Metal Gear Solid V" to rank higher? If you did, there may be a few factors why it's sitting so low on the list. For one, these are just the January sales figures, so games like "Dying Light" (which released in January) are going to rack up huge numbers, while games like "MGS V" that still haven't announced a firm release date, are going to get shaky numbers.

As well, there's a ton of huge game releases on that list, so if any games were going to beat the next "Metal Gear Solid," it'd be games like "Halo 5" and "Arkham Knight."

Recently, series mastermind Hideo Kojima released some new details about "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." Apparently, the game will feature dynamic weather- rain, snow and so forth, that affect the game's combat. If it's raining, for example, enemy soldiers will actively try to get out of the downpour- which you can use to your advantages.

As well, the game will have a mechanic similar to the "Souls" series, where players can interact with each other's games via multiplayer. And there's still plenty to learn about the upcoming "The Phantom Pain"- the closer we get to the game's release, the more Kojima and Konami will be happy to tell the world about their newest blockbuster.
