Three Movies and a Comic Book: Robotech Movie Underway, Brad Pitt in New Romance Thriller and More

The Hollywood press is abuzz with reports of several new movies and a crossover comic book that promises to excite kids of all ages.

Giant robots from the 1980's may soon come back to life in in a live-action movie based on the popular anime television series Robotech. Producers Ginanni Nunnari and Mark Canton have taken the enormous challenge of bringing the skyscraper-tall alien robots stamped Made-in- Japan to the big-screen.

The two Warner-based producers are reportedly bringing in some equally respected names to help the film take off from the drawing board. No target date for release as has been announced as of yet. However, Michael Gordon has reportedly been selected as writer while Andy Mushietti is being wooed to direct, according Deadline Hollywood.

The Robotech series, which aired in the US during the early to mid-80's, is being credited as having introduced the American youth Japanese-style cartoons-now known almost generically as Anime.

Meanwhile, Brad Pitt will be starring in Paramount's new romantic thriller by director Robert Zemeckis. Producers are being tight-lipped about the untitled movie's script which reportedly is by writer Steven Knight.

Pitt has obviously been very busy lately with a string of projects, the latest to be completed was "By the Sea" which also stars wife Angelina Jolie and before that he also starred in "The Fury."

Graham King is reportedly developing this project under his very own GK Films, according to Variety.

For those who crave action, Tyrese Gibson will be starring in an action thriller which he reportedly co-wrote, Desert Eagle.

The film revolves around a pair of US Border Patrol agents who are hot on the trail of drug dealers operating out of a Native American reservation casino. Desert Eagle promises to thrill with the time-proven Guns + Drugs = Action formula.

Gibson is best known for his role as Roman Pierce in the Fast and Furious series, a character he recently reprised in Furious 7. He also starred in the earlier Transformers movies. Deadline Hollywood revealed that this project is intended to be a "star vehicle" for the actor.

Following the box office successes of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and the X-Men series comes a comic book crossover of the two beloved super hero teams!

While not exactly a movie, Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex is expected to nonetheless make an impact on fans. Marvel Entertainment calls the book a "cosmic throw down," and also includes non-team members like Captain America and Nova. The book is expected in stores and on digital devices this month.
