Amanda Knox Murder Trial Update: Raffaele Sollecito's Ex Now a Freelance Reporter; Appeal Takes Place as Final Court Verdict Approaches

By

The West Seattle Herald employed Knox as a freelance reporter for her qualifications, particularly her knack for writing and Journalism background.

According to the newspaper's editor Patrick Robinson, Knox was offered a freelancing post at the newspaper because she is qualified as a writer. He said that the paper would approach any qualified writer of Knox's age and stage whom he was quoted referring as "a qualified writer of that scale and this level of journalism."

When the editor was asked about its implication on the paper, he said that it doesn't matter what people think about this decision. What matters, according to him, is to give Knox the opportunity to live a normal life, not only because she is a resident of West Seattle, but also because she holds potential as a news reporter.

Knox was re-convicted of murder of Merideth Kercher, her former roommate and co-exchange students in the university town of Perugia, Italy.

The Court of Cassation in Florence overturned the 2009 guilty verdict and sentenced the 27-year-old Knox to 281/2 years and Sollecito to 25 years. Originally Knox was sentenced to 26-year imprisonment, but two and a half years was added due to her previous conviction for slander. Both Knox and Sollecito spent four years in prison before they were acquitted by an appellate court in Perugia in 2011.

Knox was not present in the appellate trial for fear of being wrongly incarcerated again. It's her lawyers who had attended the trial and who informed her immediately after the reading of sentence before 2 judges and 6 lay jurors.

Knox pleads her innocence and plans on staying in the US. As to her potential extradition, the US would decide whether to extradite her or not.

While her lawyers are working on her appeal for a retrial, Knox's name will continue to appear on news stories. This time though as a reporter.
