Amanda Knox Court Trial Continues Amidst Engagement to Rock Star Boyfriend: Meredith Kercher Murder Still Seeking Justice

By

Amanda Knox, the student who was reconvicted last year for the murder of her Briton roommate, Meredith Kercher has recently been engaged to musician boyfriend Colin Sutherland, who she has known since her school days. No wedding date has been confirmed as of now.

According to The Seattle Times, a close family friend confirmed Knox and Sutherland's recent engagement. Sutherland had just moved from Seattle to New York.

"Her engagement was disclosed by a source close to the family, and Knox confirmed it in an email, but declined to say anything else," the paper had reported.

Knox, 27, who was accused of murdering the British student in 2007 in the hilltop town of Perugia in Umbria maintains her innocence. Her roommate had apparently died in a horrible sex game gone wrong. Knox was initially acquitted in 2011, but in January the Italian court had reinstated her guilty verdict. On the other hand, Knox, had refused to return to Italy for the trial.

Knox had maintained her innocence on several occassions and even attended the Innocence Network event in Portland where she met several individuals who had similar experiences like her.

"I was hated for so long," Knox said. "Feeling accepted and feeling understood gives one strength to keep going and try to find your place. That's the whole point of justice, when something horrible happens, trying to reconcile that with life. It's really helpful to see other people who have done that."

Knox's engagement to Sutherland had come just a month before Italy's Supreme Court decision on whether to overturn her acquittal for the murder of Kercher, along with her her then boyfriend Italian Raffaele Sollecito. Knox faces an uncertain future in incarceration.
