It seems unfair that "The Legend of Korra" had to end. Even if it ended on such an impressive note- a subtle (or not-so-subtle, really) suggestian that the female characters Korra and Asami were falling in love. That ending was well recieved by nearly everyone who saw it. By critics, by fans, and even by "Korra's" creators themselves.
Michael Dante DiMartino (who co-created the series, and "Avatar: The Last Airbender") stated the following about the finale:
"I get that not everyone will be happy with the way that the show ended. Rarely does a series finale of any show satisfy that show's fans, so I've been pleasantly surprised with the positive articles and posts I've seen about Korra's finale."
But "Korra's" been gone for a while now, and now's the time to try and push it towards a new season. Or better yet, a new movie. And while going the animated route might seem obvious (both "The Legend of Korra" and "Avatar: The Last Airbender" were animated), a live-action "Korra" might have its benefits. There's two big ones we can think of, right off the bat- making up for the abomination that was M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" film, and providing a big-budget opportunity to cast Asian actors in a major film.
International Business Times notes that fans are "still reeling" over the twist from the very end of the series (Korrasami), and that the continued popularity of the show based on that twist could be useful in getting a "Legend of Korra" movie off the ground. Which certainly makes sense. And the fanbase is still there, as sites like MoviePIlot are still fan-casting the potential "Legend of Korra" movie, whether it ends up being made or not. No matter what, "Avatar" is a big enough franchise that there's no way Nickelodeon would end up letting it die like this. It'll have to come back at some point- and in some form.
