It seemed like the "Resident Evil" franchise might last forever, but that's not the case- at least not when it comes to the films (the video games, however, will probably continue on forever). "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is officially the final film in the "Resident Evil" series.
But what else do we know about "The Final Chapter" other than being the last "Resident Evil" movie? Well, the film may take influence from the most recent "Resident Evil" game, "Resident Evil: Revelations 2." As is the case with most "Resident Evil" films, the monsters and the general storyline/setting are often pilfered from whichever game is most popular or has just been released. Creatures from "Resident Evil 5," like the Majini Zombies or the Axeman (a giant Majini zombie with an enormous axe) were both featured in the films "Resident Evil: Afterlife" and "Resident Evil: Retribution." As well, the Las Plagas parasite from "Resident Evil 4" was featured in "Resident Evil: Retribution."
Currently, "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" is the latest game in the franchise, and according to reviews, it's being used to test what "Resident Evil" fans are looking for in the next main series game, which would be "Resident Evil 7." Since it's doubtful that "Resident Evil 7" will be out- or even very far in production (according to Celebeat, the film's going in to production in August) by the time "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is released, it's more likely that the film would look to the "Revelations" series for inspiration.
In "Revelations," the creatures have an aquatic theme- like the "Ultimate Abyss" creature pictured above- and it may be very likely that "The Final Chapter" has at least some influence from these particular monsters. Some may be glad that the cheesy, campy and sometimes outright stupid "Resident Evil" film series is coming to an end (as Yahoo reports, the series has always had its naysayers), but for some, "The Final Chapter" is going to be one of the most anticipated films of 2016.
