MacBook Air 2015 Release: USB Type-C Port, 12-Inch Retina Display, Touch ID

MacBook Air 2015 release is imminent now that Apple has been giving invites to their March 9 event in San Francisco, California dubbed "Spring Forward." The press event might include not only the famed iWatch launch but the latest laptop offering of the tech giant as well.

According to tech analyst Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies in an interview, Apple needs MacBook Air refresh. "If Apple wanted to get a new MacBook Air in the school-buying process, they'd have to do something in this time frame," he expressed.

Rumors have come up earlier this year that MacBook Air is in the works of bringing in fresh changes like a slimmer model with a USB Type-C port. This port is said to replace the traditional headphone jack and two microphones for input and noise cancelling.

USB Type-C port is smaller and faster than USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 and can also utilize functions for charging and displays. MacBook Air is expected to sport 12-inch screen size with thinner bezels, smaller than the available MacBook Air in the market. On top of that, a report says keyboard will undergo design overhaul as distance between keys are made closer to eliminate unnecessary space.

A high-resolution Retina displays is strongest to ring a bell with the features of new MacBook Air. Retina display is said to offer more visually appealing appearance due to an unlikely high pixel density. The laptop is expected to come out in slimmer body, an inch thinner than the current 12-inch version.

Taiwanese website Apple Club (via Google Translate) has reported that a Touch ID, which is common to iPhones, will be incorporated into the new MacBook Air, aside from MacBook Pro, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse. On top of that, a fingerprint scanner will be placed on the trackpad for MacBooks.

Meanwhile, a newly hailed strong competitor of MacBook Air has already been revealed at the Mobile World Congress 2015 yesterday. HP's Spectre x360 is the most high-end laptop the firm ever produced. Spectre x360 sports specifications that have just been rumored to an expected MacBook Air and MacBook Pro release.

HP Spectre x360 has an aluminum body that's 15.9mm thick. It comes with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 Broadwell processor and a 13.3-inch touchscreen with 1080p or Quad HD resolution. It also includes either 4 GB or 8 GB RAM and an SSD ranging in size from 128 GB to 512GB.

The Spectre x360 also has three USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, an HDMI port, and a Mini DisplayPort. HP uses wider trackpads and includes a backlit keyboard. Spectre x360 runs in Windows 8.1.The Spectre x360 goes on sale today, with configurations starting at $899 and running up through $1,399.
