'Ant-Man' Final Battle Details: Will Ant-Man vs Yellowjacket be Funny?

By

The latest Ant-Man concept art has hit the net, and it contains a lot of what we already know- that Paul Rudd will strap on the Ant-Man suit, shrink down to tiny size, and control an army of ants to steal stuff. But it's also got a new glimpse of what may be the final battle between Ant-Man and Yellowjacket, the film's villain, played by Corey Stoll.

Obviously, we know the two will square off in the film, and that Ant-Man's climax will probably involve Ant-Man battling Yellowjacket. Previous rumors have described his character as psychotic, and we've yet to see his costume in action- although given its many arms and apparent ability to control swarms of yellow jackets, it's probably pretty fearsome. That also may lead to something else in the film's final fight- a battle not only between Ant-Man and Yellowjacket, but between their own personal armies of ants and yellowjackets- which, as the two characters would shrink down, would probably appear to be huge. As well, recent LEGO set leaks point to a major battle between Ant-Man and the villain at the end of the film.

But there may be another element to Ant-Man's final scene that no one realizes- comedy. Actor Bobby Cannavale, who'll be starring in Ant-Man in a currently unknown role, revealed that shooting the film felt like a comedy, and not like a superhero film.

"And so, both those actors are really good improvisers. Adam McKay and Paul did a big rewrite on that script. So the scenes themselves felt like an indie film. It really felt like a comedy that we were doing. And then, of course, you have those big scenes. I spent so much time in front of a blue screen and that was just a trip for me."

"I'm not used to that kind of thing. But it was really a good combination of bringing a real off-the-cuff sensibility to a big, huge action movie. That was really fun and I think that probably happened because Guardians Of The Galaxy was such a success. So it didn't feel like I was working in a really serious superhero movie. It didn't feel like Thor or something like that."

How will that affect the film's ending? Will it still have the action we expect from Marvel movies? With the presence of Yellowjacket, there's bound to be at least a few good fight scenes in there.

Ant-Man premieres on July 17, 2015.
