The mad rush to take the coveted Iron Throne in the mythical land of Westeros is about to get even madder and much, much bloodier. This becomes very evident after watching the second full length trailer released by HBO ahead of the TV premier of Game of Thrones Season 5.
The almost 2-minute trailer begins with a voice over by Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), who likens the five warring feudal clans in the land to spokes on a wheel. “This one is on top and that one is on top and on and on it spins, crushing all those on the ground. I am not going to stop the wheel, I’m going to break the wheel,” she says with cold determination. Fans know just how far Daenerys character has developed from the meek innocent virgin married off by her brother to a barbarian lord in order to regain their family’s lost power (Season 1), to the warrior queen of Season 5.
Largely based on the novels ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ by George RR Martin, the TV series’ producers and writers David Benioff and DB Weiss offer little in the way of juicy plot spoilers for Season 5. The small-screen adaptation is known to deviate from the novels, apparently every time the producers feel the need for more blood to be spilled! In a recent interview, Martin himself told viewers to expect certain characters who did not die in his books to meet their maker in the series!
Meantime, the 2nd trailer, which shows the rival factions in various stages of war preparation as well as the apparent destruction of familiar structures, is open to interpretation and speculation. An observer asked if another royal wedding may be in the works on Season 5. It can be recalled that the last two did not turn out so well. The same observer also asked if someone will mount a campaign to take “The North?” The answers to these questions may just keep audiences glued to their seats beginning May 12, when Game of Thrones Season 5 premiers.
