Neill Blomkamp will be at the helm of the upcoming "Alien 5" movie and he will be joined by Sigourney Weaver. The director of "District 9" and "Elysium" will be opening a new storyline for Ellen Ripley paving the way for future sequels for the latest "Alien" movie. Sharlto Copley shares his thoughts on Blomkamp's latest film project.
Fans of the Alien film franchise are now rejoicing considering that their favorite film will have a fresh approach from Neill Blomkamp. The South African director's work in "District 9", "Elysium" and "CHAPPiE" gave him the opportunity to be familiar in using Alien and Future Technology in his movies. These two concepts are going to be widely used in the upcoming "Alien 5" movie.
Alien Movie Direction
In one of his recent interviews about his latest film, "CHAPPiE", Neill Blomkamp was able to shed some light in his upcoming "Alien 5" film. According to the director, he wants his "Alien movie" to be a genetic sibling of Ridley Scott's "Aliens" to remain a part of its lineage. While there are several projects revolving around the "Alien" film franchise like "Prometheus 2" and the new "Predator" film, Blomkamp doesn't want his project to be combined with them. He explained that "To me, it's all Ridley Scott's world. I think on a creative level, combining any kind of Marvel-esque universe across all of the different franchises included in 'Predator' and 'Alien,' would be an egregious error."
New Alien Movie will be a first in a series
Neill Blomkamp also gave some insights on his plans for the upcoming "Alien 5" film and the possibility of future sequels. The director explained that "When I met Sigourney [Weaver] on the set of Chappie, I presumed that she would never want to play Ripley again... I also didn't know where you could go with her, given Alien 3 and 4. When I started to speaking to her, I just wanted to know more about the process of making the first two films. The first two are the ones that I care about." He further added that, "Then I started to realize there was a whole film - at least a film, if not more - that still contained Ripley, which I was really surprised by."
Will Sharlto Copley be involved?
Sharlto Copley has been involved with all of Neill Blomkamp's films and it would be a surprise if he won't be casted in the upcoming "Alien" movie. However in his recent interview, the South African Actor shared that he is not in Alien movie but he is excited with the fact that his Neill Blomkamp is going to direct the next installment in the Alien film franchise. He jokingly said that he can still be a part of the new alien movie as a Xenomorph and he can do a motion capture performance for that character as what he did in "CHAPPiE".
In the end, Sharlto Copley said that he's going to start some reverse psychology and say to Blomkamp that, "OK, dude you know how people loved Wilkus (District 9), Kruger (Elysium) and Chappie. I'm just saying all three characters landed with the audience. If you want to go without me, you can. There are other actors. You can use them if you like."
"Alien 5" will be the latest installment in the Alien film franchise. The Ridley Scott classic will receive a fresh perspective under the helm of Neill Blomkamp. Stay in tune for more updates!
