'No Man's Sky' as PS4 Exclusive Release Embraces Procedural Art Generation: Best Indie Game of 2015?

By

Presumably, No Man's Sky rumored to release as a PS4 exclusive might be possible for this year, as reported. Hello Games art director Grant Duncan revealed 'idiotic' robots as well as the endless universe were created through countless algorithms and computer codes. Thus, labeled as one of the best indie games to launch for 2015.

No Man's Sky might be released as a PS4 exclusive. Grant Duncan, Hello Games art director, revealed that the PC platform will be incapable for the gameplay since they fear that by having it in this particular platform, it would undermine the beauty of the universe that the [Grant] team has been developing.

Duncan also revealed that the game will be in procedural art generation, which means in computer graphics, the content of the game will be done through tons of algorithm [alongside the computer codes included] rather than the usual game development done by other developers with amazing titles. This method was first introduced some decades ago where the developers have limited memory to develop big titles.

Inspite this cheap method of game development, yet, Hello Games team were clever enough to make the entire game including its appearance and mechanics look best through the traditional way of making them.

Through this kind of procedure, the elements of the game such as the content can be created by the host rather than by having the pre-rendered artwork in the game package.

With the increasing interest in getting back to the procedural designing in game development, Hello Games took it as an advantage for developing No Man's Sky. Duncan also made some handmade blueprints for templates for his team mates to continue progress through the algorithms along with the computer codes.

It was also mentioned as saying, "The team did this by creating digital seeds that dictated how everything, from a cluster of rocks to a grouping of palm trees would grow and be created." Through these methods, his team were able to create artistic and original game appearance.

With the game's progress, Hello Games has been silent about digging to deeper details except some clues of the gameplay. Hello Games Managing Director and co-founder Sean Murray shared players' capability to upgrade ships, weapons, as well as suits.

Aside from that, they also said that they drive inspiration from NASA with its world and the journey of the players to the endless universe.

No Man's Sky is set to release in PS4 this year. No further details were confirmed if Hello Games would release the game in other consoles and in PC as well.
