Microsoft HoloLens vs Samsung Gear VR vs Sony's Project Morpheus: Release, Specs Unveils HDTV Hologram

Techniques enabling thee-dimensional view on images turned out to be the most influential in technological advancements nowadays. Thus, Samsung, Microsoft, as well as Sony have developed their unique devices that supports Holography.

"A new way to see the word," this is the core promise of Microsoft to users with their recent Microsoft HoloLens, expected to be released this year. This type of technology will come together with Windows 10, as it would be the compatible OS for holographic platform.

The computing giant also added that this would be the new reality that the world will have with the most powered high-definition quality of images while creating a convenient world for people integrated to realities and daily routines such as in work, teaching, and more.

While Microsoft developed this type of modern device to introduce to the global community, other giants like Sony and Samsung has also made the same type.

Microsoft HoloLens works incredibly, as it appears like the size of a 50-inch HD HDTV, around 10 feet, on its screens. This will be immediately seen as soon as the user wears the HoloLens. It works even with Skyping, just like the usual system with PC, and laptops. However, what can be seen is the person seemed sticking on the wall while having normal conversations.

Sony and Samsung have also launched their Project Morpheus and Samsung Gear VR respectively. Since Microsoft is also one of the creators of Xbox, even in gaming, they have developed a more powerful way to achieve optimal gaming experiences using a technology that goes beyond the current Xbox.

Comparing HoloLens and Morpheus, it was cited that the two just differ with the augmented reality or AR. HoloLens can be used in any type of activity users do use, while the Morpheus focused on developing much more realistic images in gaming. HoloLens, sadly, doesn't have this feature unlike the Morpheus.

Another downside for Morpheus is it creates obstruction with the vision compared to the convenience brought by HoloLens. Morpheus can't be effectively used without controllers. As cited, "Morpheus completely obstructs your vision, making sure you'll fully immersed in the game environment ... Unfortunately, you still need a controller of some sort for your hands but we've tried it and all feel pretty real."

Morpheus, Sony's VR system, has accelerometer and gyroscope sensors, 1000 Hz inertial update rate, 90 degrees field of view, HDMI video in. Its headset uses 1080p LCD, that works will with PS4. With its current 5-meter cable prototype, Morpheus can work well wireless.

With Holography, Samsung has also something to offer to geeks and non-geeks alike. If Microsoft has HoloLens and Sony with Project Morpheus, they have the Gear VR, compatible to Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung's Gear VR has cool features that users might consider having. One of them is having the same 3D experience like the other two devices simply connecting to the phone (specified). From gaming to watching videos, and so on, users can also have the same as if they have the HoloLens and the Morpheus.

In Gear VR, compared to the two, can allow users to have the 3D experience to everything without such limitation to the activities they might wanted to do. So, for example, if they wish to use it in gaming, they can use the VR, and more. It has 96 degrees field of view Optical Lens, 198(W) x 116(L) x 90(h) mm dimensions, < 20 ms motion to photos latency and 55-71 mm Interpupillary Distance.

Additional specifications for Gear VR included the focal adjustments, covering farsighted and nearsighted visions; Physical User Interface with the touchpads, volume key, and back button; micro USB connection to Samsung Galaxy Note 4; and 16GB VR content available with microSD card included upon purchase in Oculus Stores.

This Innovator Edition of Samsung features ultra-low lantency for Note 4's low persistence of AMOLED HD display, promises almost no motion blur. With that being said, through having Oculus applications, from Oculus Cinema, Oculus 360 Photos and Oculus 360 Videos, VR games, and other high end developed applications, users can have a guaranteed worthwhile encounter with this type of technology.
