Hotline Miami 2 Unofficial Patch Now Available to Fix Windows XP Woes, Issues: Detailed Instructions Released

By

The well-received Hotline Miami 2 release last week proves that the game is indeed one of the most anticipated AAA titles this 2015 but some PC gamers were dismayed to find out that it won't run using Windows XP OS as otherwise revealed in the system specs ahead of launch.

However, as what would have been unfortunate for those who pre-ordered the game isn't anymore with a helpful remedy courtesy of modder Silent available on the Steam forums. This reported unofficial patch for Hotline Miami 2 appears to have fixed the problem for a lot of PC gamers who are still using the Windows XP OS.

According to PC Gamer, the patch created by Steam user Silent needs some amount of computer skills to do these steps:

1) Unzip the archive into your Hotline Miami 2 directory; 2) Run the included batch file which patches the startup file with a custom DLL making it bootable under XP. Detailed instructions are also available that assure the great possibility that there won't have any trouble.

The instructions recommend that the game should be run in OpenGL mode rather than DirectX 9, that can only run in borderless windowed mode and is apparently very crash-prone. The patch will also have to be re-applied every time the game is updated.

Silent noted these are minor issues with the patch as saying, "When the game runs in DirectX 9 mode, it crashes on device lost."

"To minimise the negative impact of this issue, the game is now forced to run in borderless windowed mode, so it still appears to be fullscreen, but cannot be minimized like regular fullscreen applications. The game will still crash when applying changes to any Graphics settings. Don't worry, despite the crash, all the changes got applied! When you launch the game again, the settings will be changed,"

"To prevent those issues, it's recommended to run the game in OpenGL mode," Silent added.

In a Eurogamer review, contributor Tony Coles expressed his like of Dennaton's psychedelic sequel despite that he also felt that it was a step down from the original offering.

"Hotline Miami 2 is definitely to be recommended," Coles wrote in his Hotline Miami 2 review.

"It's the sequel that everyone expected, perhaps. But I'm not sure it's the sequel the original truly deserved."

Hotline Miami 2 release is now out and available for the gaming fans to enjoy on PC and across other platfoms.
