Allegiance has been axed after just airing five episodes. NBC decided to pull the plug early on the spy drama, leaving eight unaired episodes.
While the show had earned an initial 5 million viewers when the series first aired on February 5. However the numbers quickly dwindled down to 1.5 million during the second epsisode. Already the series had seen a significant decline in viewership during the second episode alone.
The spy drama is the American adaptation of the famed Israeli show The Gordin Cells. The premise tells of Alex O'Connor (Gavin Stenhouse), a young CIA agent who specializes in Russian affairs. His ideals are about to be pushed aside when he finds out that his close-knit and influential family is then split apart when it is found out that his parents are actually covert Russian spies who were deactivated years ago.
Things get complicated when the Kremlin reactivates them and tasks them for a terror operation. The initial tactic of NBC was to slot the spy drama behind its number one drama, 'The Blacklist'. However, it appears that the strategy had backfired on the network leading to the show's premature departure.
It was then confirmed that the series would move online on March 12, 2015. The show's finale was filmed on March 11, it was reported.
The Slap has now taken over the show's current timeslot at 10p,. Will The Slap fare better in the ratings game? Initial reports say that The Slap isn't faring any better, but only time will tell if this will perform better than Allegiance.
The Slap stars Zachary Quinto and Uma Thurman. The miniseries takes place after a seemingly minor incident where a middle-aged man slaps a misbehaving child.
