'12 Monkeys' Season 2 has been renewed by Syfy in its continued commitment to producing more science fiction television. The show's co- executive producers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett will take over as showrunners on the second season.
The adventure thriller '12 Monkeys' is coming back for Season 2, after Syfy announced the renewal Thursday.
However, there's a catch-the new season the current co-exec producers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who will be stepping in for Natalie Chaidez, will be the new exec producers/showrunners of the show. Matalas and Fickett also created the show.
Natalie Chaidez, on the other hand, will step down. She will segue to Syfy's upcoming Gale Anne Hurd drama 'Hunters', which she wrote.
Still, Richard Suckle and Charles Roven will continue to serve as exec producers, and Jake Kurily, as a producer.
Meanwhile, the most recent episode of the current season brought in 1.5 million total viewers, 6 percent up from previous weeks.
"We are absolutely committed to '12 Monkeys,' and have been incredibly impressed by the outstanding critical and audience praise the series has earned," said Dave Howe, Syfy president. "The talent both on and off-screen have delivered a series that has us all on the edge of our seats, providing exactly the smart, exciting storytelling Syfy is known for."
The president and chief content officer of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, Jeff Wachtel also commented, "'12 Monkeys' is a show that has exceeded expectations at every stage."
On March 12, the show's official twitter account tweeted fans of the series' upcoming season.

'12 Monkeys' stars Aaron Stanford (Nikita, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2), Amanda Schull (Suits, Center Stage) and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe, Oz,Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).
The first season finale will air April 10. '12 Monkeys' Season 2 is slated to return in 2016.
