After several decades of putting the female heroines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind the lime light, Marvel has finally decided to invest in one of its female heroes, Captain Marvel. A lot of actresses are eyeing for the lead role in the movie including Insurgent star Shailene Woodley.
Marvel studios producer Louis D'Esposito hinted about "Captain Marvel" being introduced in the cinemas. "There's obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero. We have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy carter and you never know. Maybe there's a different film with one of them, or "Captain Marvel", you know."
Marvel President Kevin Peige on the other hand announced that a "Captain Marvel" movie is on the works and is set to be released on cinemas by July 6, 2018. Rumors of a cameo appearance of the female heron on the 2017 Spider-Man reboot movie are also on running around media and the internet. A possible cameo on the upcoming Dr. Strange is also expected since the two heroes shares the same source of powers- cosmic energies.
According to Peige, 'This film has been in the works almost as long as Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy before it came out, and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm."
The movie plot would most likely play around the origins of Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers, the new lead superhero of this upcoming movie is actually a new character with an old name. The original Captain Marvel is actually a male character, but for this movie, a female lead was considered for the project.
Besides Woodley, several names are also being attached to the lead role of the movie. These include Jessica Chastain, Gina Carano, Jessica Biel, Ronda Rousey, Emmily Blunt, Jennifer Lawrence, Margot Robbie and Natalie Dormer.
