An attack carried out against Xbox Live's servers led to problems for gamers looking to play "Battlefield Hardline." On what was the first day of the game's release, players said they experienced difficulties trying to connect to servers for the game.
Electronic Arts, publisher of "Battlefield Hardline," has already said the current issues surrounding the game's availability are limited to Xbox One consoles, according to Gamespot.
Later on, the company said the connectivity issues being experienced were the result of targeted attacks. "We've identified the connectivity issues on Xbox One are due to DDoS attack and working to resolve. Apologies for the inconvenience," said Electronic Arts.
A DDos attack, which stands for Distributed Denial of Service attack, takes place when an outside party purposely drives up the load being carried by targeted servers to overwhelming amounts through the process of constant flooding, according to IGN.
The resulting amount of pressure coming from the consistent flooding is what causes the targeted servers to either slow down severely or crash entirely. Even low-level hackers can pull off a DDoS attack given the simplistic nature of it. The only good news is that no personal information stored on the servers being targeted will leak.
So far, only Xbox One owners have reported issues when it comes to trying to connect to servers supporting the game.
"Battlefield Hardline" is EA's attempt to recoup lost goodwill among gamers after the calamitous launch and rollout of their previous title from the franchise known as "Battlefield 4," according to Eurogamer.
"Battlefield Hardline" deviates a bit from the commonly found settings in previous games from the franchise. As opposed to being set in a war-torn environment, the most recent title from the franchise takes place in the world of cops and criminals.
The game will be launched in the UK on March 20.
