Shailene Woodley was interviewed by Screen Rant recently about her upcoming film 'Insurgent' and how character's development in the second film. Woodley is reprising her role as the titular heroine Tris Prior in the second film of the 'Divergent' series, where this time she and her gang are going to face against the totalitarian rule of Jeanine, who will be played by Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet. 'Insurgent' will premiere in U.S. theaters on March 20.
Insurgent takes its viewers back to the dystopian society that the first film took careful time to introduce, but offers more action and suspense as the various groups and factions unite to take down the dictatorial rule. The second film also shows the growth of Shailene's character, whose conflicting attributes shift from the physical to the mental aspect.
"I like that in this film Tris had bigger polarities. She's a bit impulsive which she could work on, but I like that she's very weak and very strong at the same time, I thought that was interesting. In the first film she's weak and strong more in physicality and in this movie she's weak and strong from a mental perspective."
There something more interesting about Shailene than her appearance in 'Insurgent.' Everyone who has followed 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' knows that the actress was supposed to make a brief appearance as Mary Jane Watson, who would become Peter Parker's (played by Andrew Garfield) new love interest after the death of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). However, due to the producers wanting to keep the focus on Peter and Gwen, Shailene's scene was cut from the theatrical release.
It does appear, however, that Shailene may get another shot at playing the superhero's love interest. In an interview made with her by Clevver Movies, Shailene expressed her interest in reprising her role in the planned Spider-Man reboot, and that she is excited in doing so.
Whether or not Shailene will reprise her role as Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man reboot by Marvel and Sony Studios is only a speculation for the meantime. Now that she has personally expressed her interest though, fans will just have to see if Sony or Marvel Studios will honor her request.
