Nintendo Surprises Fan With Unexpected Super-Secret NX Project Tease

By

Nintendo has a super-secret dedicated video game console under its sleeve with a simple, yet cool code name, the NX project. Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo Co. teasingly announced in a joint news conference covered by ABCNews in Tokyo, that Nintendo and DeNA Co. a mobile gaming developer will join hands in completing the NX project.

The Nintendo's meeting with DeNA Co. was to announce Nintendo's plan to branch out into mobile gaming. They intend to port out Nintendo classics, such as the legendary Mario into smartphones and handheld devices. However, to ensure the public that Nintendo is not pulling the plug in developing dedicated video game consoles, Iwata drops the secret NX project teaser.

Iwata's revelation whets the curiosity of many fans, especially online game critics as to what this NX console is. However, many agree that the NX is apparently the next line of Nintendo consoles that will replace the Wii. Iwata was not eager to divulge more details other than the NX has a "brand new concept." Though information on the new project is sparse, Iwata promises more details about the NX in future dates.

Nintendo is one of the pioneers of console games and have shaped the course of gaming history. Nintendo characters like Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong and Zelda have become household names. Though Nintendo seemed to take a back seat to big gaming platforms namely Playstation and Xbox, they are in no way finished. Iwata's optimism and timely tease sparked once again the interest of people on this iconic company.

After the said Nintendo-DeNA conference, EB games, an Australian game software retailer started taking pre-orders for the NX project. EB games said that they want to always be in the forefront of gaming announcement and provided fans the chance to be first in line when the NX is finally released. EB game offer $10 AUD deposit to secure a pre-order spot.

Iwata's ambitious dream for Nintendo involves a new service that will "encompass smart devices and dedicated video game consoles." In a time where the PC is often the preferred platform for games, Nintendo will try to rekindle the flame of excitement gamers felt over the console decades ago. If everything goes well for Nintendo, fans will finally have a new, next generation Nintendo gaming machine by 2016.
