Released in October 2014, Apple's iPad Mini 3 retains its strong hold on the smartphone and phablet market and is expected to keep doing so in the next few months.

With users able to do various tasks from web surfing and photo/movie editing, to work productivity and gaming, the unit has received a number of positive reviews which boosted its place in the market. In fact, it remains to be the best selling phablets in the market, giving other manufacturers a hard time in keeping up with sales. A lot of Apple apps from the Store also received a new look and feel with its new Retina display function.

Specifications-wise, it's definitely raised the bar compared to its predecessors and even to some competitors. With two versions available, the Apple iPad Mini 3 could be used as a 3G/LTE Nano-SIM phablet or as a standalone Wi-Fi only tablet. Both versions utilize Apple's Touch ID system, which is simply a fingerprint sensor meant to contribute to device security aside from the Apple ID. The same function can be used to verify online Apple Store purchases.

Powering its iOS 8.1 (upgradeable to 8.2) is the Apple A7 chipset carrying a 1.3GHz dual-core Cyclone CPU and a quad-core PowerVR G6430 GPU. Even if it does not have an expansion card slot, users have the option to choose between the 16GB, 64GB, or 128GB internal memory variants all of which are supported by a 1GB RAM DDR3 memory module.

The iPad Mini 3 also has a 5MP (2592 x 1944 pixels) primary camera and a 1.2 secondary camera. The unit's 7.9-inch LED backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen displys 16M colors at a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels. It has a non-removeable Li-Po 6470 mAh battery giving up to 10 hours of active multimedia or talk time.

The phablet is available in gray, black, silver/white, and gold colors. Depending on the exact specs, the newest iPad is priced from US$399 upwards.
