Snapdragon 815 is the Coolest among Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 801 According to Qualcomm’s Test Run

By

The Snapdragon 815 appears king among all snapdragons according to Qualcomm's most recent heat experiment. Initially, Snapdragon 801 SoC is rumoured to heat faster than its counterpart Snapdragon 810. In an experiment conducted last month by Qualcomm that measures the temperature of Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 801 chipset it turned out that Snapdragon 810 was cooler.

However, rumours start to appear when it was revealed that the Snapdragon tests were made at significantly different temperatures. HTC One M9 powered by Snapdragon 810 had a benchmark test at 132 degrees Fahrenheit while HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy Note tested at 102 degrees and 100 degrees respectively were with Snapdragon 801. The temperature variable called for a new trial to test which Snapdragon is cooler.

The most recent of these temperature trials is conducted by Qualcomm again. It involves the new (but not officially released) Snapdragon 815 along with Snapdragon 810 and the 801. In this experiment, both 3 chipsets were placed in a device without a cellular radio, with 5-inch screen (1080 x 1920p) and of 3GB RAM. A cellular without radio and antenna was chosen to create a warmer environment for these chipsets. With these devices, the game Asphalt 8 was played at high graphics unlike the previous test which ran at medium graphics for a period of 30 minutes.

As expected, Snapdragon 815 ran coolest emitting a maximum heat of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit; this was followed by Snapdragon 801 at 107.6 degrees and Snapdragon 810 at 111.2 degrees Fahrenheit. Many see the result between Snapdragon 801 and 810 surprising as Snapdragon 801 performed better despite being the oldest among the three chipsets.

Conclusion from this simple experiment is glaring - that the users of device running with Snapdragon 815 should worry less about overheating. Overheating is major device hurdle since it is proven to decrease battery life or perhaps permanently damaging it. As reported by the company, Snapdragon 815's octa-core processor is supplemented by the Adreno 450 GPU. It is rumored that the first handsets sporting the SoC are expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2015.
