‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Marks Jennifer Lawrence’s Last Appearance as Mystique

By

Jennifer Lawrence recently confirmed that the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse film marks her final appearance as the shape-shifting mutant Mystique in the hit superhero franchise.

Lawrence made the reveal at the red carpet premier of her new movie with Bradley Cooper, Serena. When asked whether Apocalypse would be her final X-Men movie, Lawrence quickly replied, "It is my last one. Yes." She did not give additional details.

This latest confirmation may have shocked fans especially those who have come to love Lawrence's blue, dynamic mutant character since X-Men: First Class in 2011, where the actress first played the role of young Mystique.

However, media outlets claim that the revelation is not totally surprising. Lawrence, together with co-stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender who signed up for the franchise at the same time as her, will have their contracts expired after doing three films. The sequel to First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past was received positively and earned over $748 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in the superhero film franchise.

Aside from the three stars, Lawrence's ex-boyfriend Nicholas Hoult reportedly will also be playing his character Beast for the last time.

"This is the last one I'm signed up for," the actor told E! News. He clarified though that he may consider doing more as long as the script is good.

"The first one did so well and [Days of Future Past] got received so brilliantly," the 25-year-old hunk said. "It's like, wow, people really want to see the films and the best thing is it's a great crew and cast to work with and he's a fun character. I have a good time playing him so I'd keep making them," he added.

While X-Men: Apocalypse might see the departure of McAvoy as Xavier, Fassbender as Magneto, Hoult as Beast and Lawrence as Mystique, it will welcome the addition of new cast for mutants Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm.

X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Bryan Singer, will hit theaters May 27, 2016.
