This must be embarassing for the Fantastic Four. Josh Trank, Fox and the cast have all spent an unbelievable amount of time trying to keep the film secret- it wasn't until very recently that a trailer had even been released online, despite the film premiering this summer. And since then, information has been scarce, other than a few errant pictures of the characters in their superhero costumes (but not showing off their powers).
Now, an image of The Thing- aka Ben Grimm, the superhero with unbelievable strength and skin like rock- has leaked online, despite Fox's efforts to show as little of The Thing as possible. The image comes from an Instagram user who happened to wander in front of a brand-new banner for Fantastic Four that shows off all the characters and their superpowers (well, except for Mr. Fantastic, who doesn't seem to be doing much stretching. And right in the middle of the poster is The Thing, rocky likeness and everything.
It's not quite as solid as if we had actually seen The Thing in motion (although the teaser trailer did show a brief shot of The Thing crumbling out of some rock formation), and we also don't know what Jamie Bell's voice is going to sound like once he's The Thing- will Fox and Josh Trank alter his voice to give him the gruffer style usually associated with the character? But it's The Thing, and just from the design, he's looking pretty good. And very in line with this new Fantastic Four and its strict adherence to realistic, dark and gritty superheroes.
It's not clear why this image was leaked, or if there are any more leaks coming in the future (perhaps an image of Doctor Doom? We've seen even less of the classic Fantastic Four villain than we have The Thing), but there's bound to be more Fantastic Four details ahead of us in the coming months. Whether leak or legitimate.
Fantastic Four premieres in theaters on August 7, 2015.
