Xbox One News Update: Direct X12 upgrade won’t improve ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunter’

By

Game designer Damien Monnier reportedly explained to a fan via Twitter that a significant resolution upgrade for the Xbox One version of "The Witcher 3: Wilder Hunter" would likely require more than just a DX12 upgrade, which implies that Xbox One owners will have to settle with the 900p resolution.

IGN Africa cited CD Projekt RED that said that the Direct X12 upgrade for Xbox One won't likely improve the resolution of "The Witcher 3: Wilder Hunter", as the game goes with the 900p resolution. Further, CD Project is reportedly anticipating a full 1080p support for both PC and Playstation 4 gaming platforms. The three versions would then support real-time beard growth.

Meanwhile, reports by WCCFtech said that Stardock CEO Brad Wardell has been vocal about the benefits of DX12 such as the performance and visual improvements it would bring to both Xbox One and PC. Besides Dx12, he reportedly said that PlayStation 4 owners will have something to get excited about. This was later known by an interview with Kurtis Simpson of GamingBolt that the CEO was talking about Vulkan.

In the interview, Brad Wardell was asked if Sony will start supporting Mantle, in view of Microsoft and Xbox One's release of DX12, and he reportedly responded, "No, because their low-level API is still lower level than Mantle and Vulkan. So what I'm hoping is that they will support Vulkan."

He further said that if for example he writes a game for the Steam Box that supports Vulkan and PlayStation 4 supports Vulkan, it would save him from much work to have his game work on the PlayStation 4. He also said, "Whereas right now if I want to develop the game for the PlayStation 4, I have to learn their special custom API, that has shader languages that are different than what I'm used to, and I'm pretty sure that I have to send stuff in text instead of binary form."

In another news, reports by Gamepur lauded Phil Spencer's leadership as head of Microsoft's Xbox division.

It has been a year since Phil Spencer took the helm and reports cited his accomplishments such as shifting the focus of the entire division from TV-inspired to games. Instead of making the Xbox One as "the center of living rooms" he reportedly shifted it into "the center of a gamer's life". Another is the decision of excluding Kinect from Xbox One bundles which made the Xbox One much better as an environment for both consumers and creators. Lastly, Microsoft's development on DirectX 12, which is perceived to be the best fit for Xbox One.
