'Shadowhunters', the TV series based on Cassandra Clare's young adult fantasy book series 'The Mortal Instruments', has picked up by the ABC Family. The network has acquired rights to the series, a spinoff of the 2013 feature film, which did not perform well at the box office. But the question remains, will the movie stars reprise their roles?
According to Hollywood Reporter, a movie that look as if to attest its own mortality with a lackluster performance at the box office has found new home on TV. ABC Family is now hoping to score the next 'Twilight' with a new fantasy series 'Shadowhunters'. It is based on the popular YA fantasy books series 'The Mortal Instruments' by Cassandra Clare, the story revolves around 18-year-old Clary Fray.
For those who have not read the book or watched the movie, here's a quick storytelling: Clary discovers on her birthday that she's a hybrid human and angel, descended from a long line of shadowhunters whose mission is to find and neutralize demons.
While there are no cast updates have been divulged yet, many reports are still questioning if Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell-Bower will reprise their roles as Jace and Clary. How about the other movie stars?
Hollywood.com is one of the many sites who have expressed their opinions for the upcoming series. The site said that they have enjoyed Lily Collins as Clary and Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace. But, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Valentine seemed to be not a good idea. According to them, the movie had a bad casting, and Meyers' acting-wise did not work. It was also added that Valentine is supposed to have white blonde hair, not be a guy with dreads.
Meanwhile, they hailed Lena Headey for her role as Jocelyn Badass Fray, and Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane, with his beauty and charm. They suggested the show should look for people who not only are talented, but look like the characters from the book in order to get a fresh start.
'Shadowhunters' does not have an airdate yet, nor has a cast been selected, but it was reported that filming will begin some time in May 2015.
