Gears of War will finally end its chapter with the Xbox 360 and start a whole new story on the Xbox One. Atter releasing its latest instalment, Gears of War Judgement, the franchise finally ends its 360 trilogy as it starts another epic line of Gears of War titles for the next gen console.
"It won't be available on the 360," said Gears of War developer Jack Felling, when asked on Twitter if the game will be on Xbox 360. This statement significantly informed Xbox 360 owners that the franchise has moved on and said its farewell to 360 with the last title, Gears of War: Judgement.
The Xbox exclusive will have its first new gen title release on the Xbox One, though porting to Windows 10 PCs is not yet confirmed. PC gamers hope that the game will also have its PC release but some console fans are reluctant to the idea.
Most console user feedbacks warn that having the game released on PC makes it vulnerable to hacks and piracy. On the other hand, games released on the PC will get the support of its active and amazingly talented circle of modders, programmers and indie game developers that can greatly increase a game's shelf life.
Gears of War is one of the mainstay titles for Xbox ever since its first release nine years ago and have continually produced great content to fuel the franchise. With Gears of War Judgement released for the Xbox 360, it completed an epic franchise trilogy that is hoped to be ported to Xbox one. However, 360 owners won't get to play the next exciting instalment for the series as Black Tusk studios practically said "no" to all proponents of cross-gen titles.
Details of the new game are sparse but as reported by IGN, Xbox's Phil Spencer specifically said through an interview that the new Gears of War title will not be a reboot.
"I wouldn't call it a reboot because I don't think the franchise necessarily needs that," Spencer said pointing out the strength of the storyline and character development achieved in the first three titles. Spencer also said that the upcoming Gears of War title for the Xbox One will return back to its roots, to the ideas that made the franchise successful, but with a darker tone.
Though the game is technically still on the drawing board, Spencer said that the game is making "fantastic progress," and fans of the franchise will eventually have another new gen Gears of War title that will surpass the successes of the epic, last gen trilogy.
