“The Crow” Movie Remake, Cast Update: Jack Houston recreates the iconic character; Luke Evans drops role because of a curse?

It has been more than two decades since the release of the thrilling and dark movie "The Crow" in cinemas. A new crow is about to bring vengeance and hunt his killers this time around as Jack Houston lands on the lead role of the iconic character.

The movie is still based on the graphic novel created by James O'barr. Houston, known for his role in the Boardwalk Empire is casted as the new Eric Draven. The original film starred the late Brandon Lee. Unfortunately, Brandon Lee died during the filming of the movie after being shot with a faulty blank bullet. A straight adaptation of the movie is set to be filmed late this year around November or December. Hopefully Houston will not have the same fate that Lee had in making the movie.

Luke Evans was one of the names considered in playing the role of Eric in the movie. Rumors of Luke Evans dropping the role because of fears of a possible curse lurking in the movie were debunked. The actor was casted in the recently released Beauty and the Beast movie, depriving him to include "The Crow" movie in his schedule. Sam Witwer was also considered to play the role and O'barr himself found Witwer as a perfect fit for the character.

Corin Hardy is set to direct the story of murdered Eric, who was later on brought from the dead by a supernatural crow to avenge himself as well as the death of his fiancée.

Jessica Brown Findlay on the other hand will play the role of Eric Duven's fiancée, Shelly. Contracts are not yet signed according to O'Barr but the project is already considered as a done deal.

The movie reboot is produced by Edward Pressman, Kevin Misher, Ryan Kavanaugh, Jeff Most and Jeff Waxxman. A 2016 release is expected for the film.
