Dark Souls 2 Frame Rates Stutter in Xbox One; PS4 Consistent in Game Performance

Xbox One's resolution-framerate dilemma bursts one once again as gamers and critics notice graphical 'stutters' when playing Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin on the Xbox one. According to Eurogamer, when massive numbers of enemies come to attack the player, Xbox one's frame rate drops to a mere 40-50 fps which is not happening to the PS4.

This 'stutter' is caused by Xbox's patch that allows gamers to reach 1080p visuals on their console's 900p cap in exchange for lowered framerates, which only happens when 'tons' of enemies attack. In a report released by Digital foundry, the resolution for both PS4 and Xbox one were consistent in reaching 1080p, but when enemies begin to fill the screen, frame rate drops significantly on Xbox one. This is bad news, especially as high frame rates makes huge game battles enjoyable.

The report showed that Xbox One's frame rates can drop to around 40fps and even below during gameplay with multiple enemies on screen. In comparison, PS4 continually maintains a 60fps frame rate with 1080p resolution in any situation ultimately showing how Xbox one falls slightly behind the PS4 in the performance ratings.

Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin is a remastered version of Dark Souls 2 with added difficulty and enemies. The additional gameplay upgrade and a number of new enemies was the reason for the game's frame rate demands. Though the frame rate drop in Xbox one doesn't destroy gameplay, it is enough to stir the ire of meticulous game critics.

Clearly at this point, it is uncontested that PS4 has bested Xbox One. Microsoft must have a solution for this clear handicap quickly as new games today are focusing more on giving gamers epic game moment that may include huge battles. On the other hand, Microsoft can simply admit to Sony that their PS4 is the better console and just embarrassingly follow the Playstation's footsteps
