Homeland season 5 is gearing up towards its highly anticipated premiere date September of this year and the latest spoilers reveal that the show will feature a brand new plot, new locations, and a different Carrie Mathison, living a life outside of the CIA.
The new season starts two years after the previous season's finale, with Carrie living a "normal" life in Germany. Actress Claire Danes has sounded her ideas as to why Carrie left the CIA, saying that she felt isolated and disenchanted by the agency and during that two-year jump she finds a life outside of it. The actress further muses that it would be interesting to see Carrie having a social life and putting an effort at being a mother.
Meredith Stiehm, one of Homeland's showrunners, also mentioned that Carrie is going to be in a "good place" in the beginning of Homeland season 5 and that she embraced her role as a mother. Alex Gansa, the show's co-creators, commented on Carrie's development, saying "I think she's trying to make a significant and profound change."
However, that does not mean the show is going to stay that way. Claire Danes also mentioned in an interview with E! News, "I'm sure that will be completely ruined two episodes in!" Stories would not move along without any conflict and though it would be nice to see Carrie happy, we should not expect any less from Showtime's award winning political thriller.
Apart from Carrie's new life, what else can fans expect from Homeland season 5? It's Carrie and Quinn's love story.
In the season's finale, the two shared a kiss before Quinn left for Syria. Though there is no confirmation about the state of their relationship yet, the panel at PaleyFest mentioned that there was heated debate among the writers whether or not they end up being an item in the next season. But, as Showtime's president, David Nevins, said that he would not want the writers to stretch it out during the season. "If you want to go for it, go for it," he says.
Homeland season 5 expected to premiere this September promises a clean slate for the show and it is certain that the fans will enjoy it has much, if not more, than the last four seasons.
