A bending test has been conducted recently to assess which killer smartphone is the sturdiest among Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, HTC One M9 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus.
A video created by a warranty service provider, Square Trade, shows the smartphones putting into its bending machine on the same pressure test. The machine mechanizes by placing compression through nail-like object in the middle of every phone's screen display until it bends or breaks.
As a result, all smartphones bent on a given pressure. It may seem beyond expectation, but Apple's iPhone 6 Plus handset bent at 110 pounds of pressure, and its display shattered at 179 pounds. Late last year, Apple was bombarded with disapprovals from fans after the same test easily breaks the iPhone 6 Plus device at seemingly low pressure point. Back in September 2014, Samsung took advantage of Apple's situation by promoting its Galaxy Note Edge on its Twitter account with caption: "Curved. Not bent."
At the same time, HTC's One M9 bent and shattered at 120 pounds of pressure. The device could no longer be used since its power button is located at the center of the device. Meanwhile, Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge bent at 110 pounds, the same pressure the iPhone 6 Plus bent. However, that same pressure S6 Edge's screen cracked already, far from iPhone 6 Plus' pressure break point. It was still functional at the stage until the phone's display finally shattered under 149 pounds of pressure.
At the end of the bend test, Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge was the device which had the most damages on the screen display where a in a huge part of the smartphone's metal and glass display were shattered. HTC's One M9 unbelievably fared well with Apple's iPhone 6 Plus with most damages were found in the middle of the phone.
With the video garnering over 1.2 million views already in just three days, Samsung Electronics came out in public in defense of their latest flagship device, calling the test "seriously misleading." "A situation in which 50 kilograms of pressure is imposed on a smartphone cannot happen in an everyday situation. As Square Trade only tested one side, its test lacked credibility and failed to reflect the overall environment," said Samsung Electronics in a statement.
