'Godzilla 2' story spoilers, updates: Kaiju sequel taking story cues from 'Godzilla in Hell' comic storyline?Japanese spin-off rumored

"Godzilla 2" is more than a few years away (the film isn't slated to release until 2018) but we actually know more about the story than we do most future blockbusters. When director Gareth Edwards first announced the film, he mentioned several classic Godzila monsters at the same time, strongly hinting that those monsters would appear in the film The monsters in question? King Ghidora, Mothra and Rodan- three undeniably classic giant monsters, and three monsters that strongly hint at Destroy All Monsters, the classic Godzilla film, influencing "Godzilla 2". Which is something Edwards has actually said himself, hinting that he wanted the film to contain Monster Island from the films.

But now we might know even more about "Godzilla 2". According to GeekWire, IDW is working on a new Godzilla comic entitled "Godzilla In Hell", that will (presumably) see the King of the Monsters travel down to hell. We're guessing there's some kind of giant monster down there that Godzilla's got to fight before he can return home.

It may be possible that "Godzilla in Hell" could have a direct influence on what the next Godzilla film could contain. Or, the film could take influence from the new Godzilla film that's also being made in Japan. With two separate Godzilla films being prepared at the same time, it's not clear how they might interact. We do know that Shinji Higuchi, who's worked on the hit anime series "Attack on Titan", will direct and be special effects director on the new Japanes Godzilla film.

According to some sources, the new American Godzilla sequel and the upcoming Japanese Godzilla reboot will be entirely different films. However, this is just a rumor, and it'll probably closer to both films' eventual premiere dates when we find out the truth. And hey, maybe we'll get a new title for "Godzilla 2" (a subtitle, perhaps?) around then.

Godzilla 2 will premiere on June 8, 2018.
