'Faction Wars' added to 'Mortal Kombat X' as game nears its release date for current-gen consoles

As diehard "Mortal Kombat" fans wait with bated breath for the latest game from the franchise to be formally released, they have just received one more reason to take the excitement a notch higher with the introduction of the "Faction Wars" feature.

With the new feature, players will initially be given the chance to choose between five different fations to which they can pledge their allegiance to. All five of the factions will be competing with one another to see which one features the best members.

"Faction Wars" works by taking the points each player from each faction gains as they play the game. After each "Faction War," the one side who has the most points at the end will be crowned the winner, and the players belonging to it will also receive rewards, according to Playstation Lifestyle.

The five factions are "Special Forces," "White Lotus," "Black Dragon," "Lin Kuei," and "Brotherhood of the Shadow." "Mortal Kombat X" will reportedly have a single player storyline which should take right around 4 to 6 hours to finish, according to MyGaming.co.za.

Each of the characters in the game will also come with three different variations that are going to either add or subtract different abilities. The variations also act as different costumes for the game's characters.

There are currently 12 confirmed stages for "Mortal Kombat X" and they will also contain interactive elements, so players can change the way they engage their opponent depending on where they are fighting. The famously brutal franchise will also re-introduce "Brutalities." The entire cast of characters for the game will combine for over 100 different "Brutality" options.

As of now, the current roster for the game includes 24 immediately playable characters, 5 which can be unlocked through playing, 4 which will be released via DLC, and one more character who will only be available by pre-ordering the game. Goro is the pre-order character.

"Mortal Kombat X" will be released for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 14. It will be released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 later in the year, according to Express UK.
