Agents of SHIELD has been building to massive season finale, and we've finally got a few hints at what that season finale might hold. The Marvel series' second season has slowly added more and more new elements, from the Inhumans (which will eventually become a Marvel film at the very end of Phase Three) to a second SHIELD organization that purports itself to be the "Real SHIELD" and is headed up by a very mysterious Robert Gonzales, played by Edward James Olmost
And now, according to Paste, Coulson's team is going to see a major shake-up in the final episodes of Agents of SHIELD. They include Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) and Deathlok (J. August Richards) as the only true members of Coulson's team right now, but add that a few more members might come on to re-form SHIELD in the final episode- Fitz (Iain de Caestecker), the Koenigs (Patton Oswalt) and Grant Ward (Brett Dalton). It was teased in the most recent episode of Agents of SHIELD that Coulson would be trying to recruit Ward, so on that count Paste is probably right.
The season finale could also contain a few more major elements. It was recently revealed that Agents of SHIELD would be spinning off into a new series, and while details are extremely scarce on what that new series could be, it's likely we'll see a hint of the new spin-off in Agents of SHIELD's final episode.
Executive producer Jeff Bell also teased what's coming in the future of Agents of SHIELD, specifically regarding Melinday May, played by Ming-na Wen.
"The first time we met her in the pilot, she was doing her office job. You know, sitting there completely shut down, going through stacks of paperwork. And even to look at where she is now in our show versus a season and a half ago, to see what turned her into that person... it's always fun when you can find a compelling backstory that feels like it's still driving the present story. Also, in episode 15, Skye disappeared with Gordon. Where did they go, and what's that about? We have trouble fitting all this into our timeslot, but there's a lot of cool stuff on Skye's end as well."
Agents of SHIELD's second season finale will air sometime later this spring.
