"Doctor Who" season 9 is set to premiere this September and fans will find Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor in a dark plot, torn whether to kill a child or not. Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is one of the biggest cast additions for DW's 9th season. Speculations surface that she will be playing as the younger version of Clara, the Time Lord's current companion.
"Doctor Who" season 9 will begin in a two-part episode titled, "The Magician's Apprentice" and "The Witch's Familiar." According to a report, the first part of the opener is based on a classic "Doctor Who" episode "Genesis of the Daleks." In the episode, the Fourth Doctor (played by Tom Baker) interacted with his archenemy, Davros, the creator of Daleks.
In "The Magician's Apprentice," the Doctor will again have an encounter with Davros in a battlefield, only this time, he is much younger. The Time Lord will then be put into a position whether he will choose to kill the child who will later invent the notorious Daleks or if he will let him live.
"The Witch's Familiar" on the other hand could be about the return of The Master, who was obliterated in the last season. Reports said that Missy could find a way to control Clara and do whatever she commands.
Speaking of Clara, Maisie Williams' inclusion in the cast made fans speculate that she could be playing the younger version of Clara. During an interview, the Game of Thrones star admits that she is aware about the DW fans wondering what significance her role can give to the show.
"There's lots of speculation about who my character is, like if she is a younger Clara. All, that has been said, is that she tests the Doctor heavily, so all of that speculation could be true," Maisie vaguely stated.
Meanwhile, reports are once again circulating that Jenna Coleman, who plays Clara Oswald in "Doctor Who" and first appeared on its seventh season, will be leaving the BBC sci-fi series this year. It was first reported last year that the actress will no longer be in the ninth season of "Doctor Who" but all those reports were ultimately proven faux as Coleman is still very much attached in the series until now. Coleman's stay in the series is the Doctor's companion is still unknown.
"Doctor Who" season 9 is slated to have a darker premiere on September as the Time Lord will be frayed whether to kill a child to prevent the invention of Daleks or give him another chance. Maisie Williams entrance is another reason to watch out for the return of BBC's longest running sci-fi television series.
