With nothing being official as of this time, the only thing known about Persona 5's release is that it will be late 2015.
Rumors speculate an October release, but with gave developer Altus's official website and social media accounts being mum about the whole thing, nothing is certain. The official site just says that the game is set for a 2015 release.
It seems, though, that the people behind Persona 5 are working hard to make sure the anticipation does not go for naught.
"I know it's been a long wait, but I hope you'll give us just a little more time. Hopefully once it's out, it'll all be worth it in the end," Persona 5 director and producer Katsura Hashino said in a Japanese language interview.
"We've been very fortunate to have created a series of games where people feel so attached to each of the protagonists, so we hope that with Persona 5, we'll be able to make a game where the events of it really hit home and make for really impactful experiences. There are some things that can only be experienced on a console, especially when it comes to RPGs. We've heard from people that games like Persona are the reason they've started playing RPGs again and we're working really hard to make this new one another such game that can reach out to people and grab them," he added.
Aside from people working hard on the project, the only other known things about the game are the characters shown on a trailer, the gameplay, part of the plot, and the platforms the game will be released on.
The trailer, shown at the Persona Super Live concert held in Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, introduced the game protagonist (described by Hashino as "the Phantom character from today's Yomiuri Shimbun advertisement") and three other characters (Ryuuji Sakamoto, Anzu Takamaki and Morgan the cat). He added that the initial Personal for Phantom is known as "Arsene", which incidentally is the first name of the thief Lupin from French literature.
The gameplay evolves with scenes from everyday life, menus, dungeons where stealth and jumping elements are present and battles where characters use either their melee or gun Personas to fight.
As for the plot, Hashino said that the protagonists will be on the run after doing what they think is right, following something completely out of the blue. He also described them as academy juveniles.
Altus will release the game for PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.
Fans and watchers are expecting more detailed and official announcements on Persona 5 to be made at the June 16-18 Electronic Entertainment Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
