Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Movie is the latest buzz.
The movie is reportedly in full swing, as French actress Marion Cotillard joined the cast of this video game adaptation. The Academy Award actress (received for her Edith Piaf character in "La Vie en Rose"), known for her roles in "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Inception", joins Michael Fassbender with whom she worked with on "Macbeth".
Fassbender, who is famous for his portrayal of the younger Magneto in the recent X-Men movies ("X-Men: Days of Future Past", and "X-Men: First Class") earlier signed up to play the Assassin's Creed Movie protagonist. He is reportedly going to have either the role of Desmond Miles or Ezio Auditore -- or both.
Fassbender is also said to be one of the movie producers, through his DMC Film banner with Conor McCaughan.
Cotillard, whose role in the upcoming film is still undetermined as of this writing, and Fassbender will reunite with director Justin Kurzel.
The film is already in production, and is set for a 21 December 2016 play date under 20th Century Fox.
The Assassin's Creed Movie follows bartender Desmond Miles who relives the life and times of his ancestor, an Assassin in the Middle East. He then discovers the rivalry between two ancient secret societies and finds out how it affects his present life.
Since being officially announced, fans of the game have been excitedly anticipating this adaptation which many expect to be faithful to the game series given Ubisot's close involvement with the movie production. A good story about the Assassins, as well as a fair amount of excellent action, is going to be a must for the movie.
Hopefully, the Assassin's Creed Movie becomes one of the more successful game-to-film adaptations and spawn a franchise like the game series. Depending on this one's performance, a sequel or a trilogy might be in the works.
