MTV2 set to revive classic Celebrity Deathmatch; Let's Get It On!

By

MTV2 recently announced a green light to bring back "Celebrity Deathmatch", the classic claymation series that features pop culture icons pitted against one another.

Celebrity Deathmatch is one of the most entertaining (adult) animated series of the late 90s where clay versions of Hollywood celebrities face off in the ring until only one is left standing. The show features blood and gore, entertaining commentators, rowdy audience members, and the occasional ringside guest star.

The latest version of the series is set to feature the same elements as the classic version, with a social media twist. The series' creator Eric Fogel will be on board as executive producer for the revamped Celebrity Deathmatch. Eric Fogel has recently been retweeting news via his personal Twitter account about Celebrity Deathmatch.

MTV2 has fans pumped with tweeting their own suggestions about who should face off who in the anticipated claymation show. The original series ran from 1998 to 2002 on MTV, and then had a short revival on MTV2 in 2005 to 2007. The series has held some of the most entertaining matches in pop culture history including classic face-offs of Sylvester Stallone vs Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Jordan vs Dennis Rodman, and Bette Midler vs Cher, while guest appearances and fight specialties with specialized arenas were sometimes utilized. The Time Machine was first introduced in 1999 to have a historical faceoff between Genghis Khan and Mahatma Gandhi. In a fight where Stone Cold Steve Austin faces off with Vince McMahon, the two celebrities were signed on to lend their voices to their clay counterparts.

MTV2 will still be using the original format of the show, while incorporating social media elements to align with changing technologies. Hourly Twitter wars were noted to be an addition to the show's format. No announcement yet has been made with regards to when the show will premiere. We hope Mills Lane will still referee.
