The much anticipated Android updates for Sony's smartphone lineup are unveiled. The Japanese technological giant now released Android 5.0.2 Lollipop updates for Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, Z Ultra and Xperia Z3 Dual while Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 upgrades are queued next week.
At the same time, users of Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z need to give it a few more weeks for the update to roll out, announces Sony. Furthemore, Sony reminds users that the update time frame depends largely with the market and carrier network of the model.
Along with the update announcement from Sony, a few features of what the latest OS offers are also revealed. There is a fresh streamlined look in the interface though Sony makes sure to maintain the minimalist design. Moreover, there is a new interface in the notifications on a locked screen where now, users are allowed to customize what can be viewed while the phone is locked.
Also, multi-user profile is introduced to make sure that the owner retains privacy of her/his profile but at the same time allows other users to access the device through another profile. Furthermore, more of Sony's personal touch on the recent Android update includes the Android for Work mechanism which permits users to tailor their device to fit the work ecosystem they are engaged in. Lastly, Sony promises that after the installation, the Xperia user is now provided more customization options such as removal of applications from the internal memory card.
Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, Z Ultra and Xperia Z3 Dual users usually receive a notification prompt for the update to start. In case there is none, the user of the above-mentioned devices can proceed to About Device to check the system updates though the checking may have to be done several times since it takes some time for the device to get them. Remember that these updates are done OTA. Also, it is advisable that the device is 50% charged or properly connected to a power source while the update ensues.
